Comments The Thorfinn was not our first choice, but when the Odyssey (our original booking) was damaged and the other liveaboard was burnt, our only option was to step up to the Thorfinn. Thank goodness they were there as I got to dive Truk Lagoon for the fourth time. Sadly, probably my last.
The Thorfinn is stout, seaworthy old girl, but has lapsed into a sad state of disrepair. Limited air conditioning inside, terrible photo and dive decks, many, safety issues, poor food, minimal ice, all Captained by a an experienced sea-man, Capt. Lance.
(I'm told all this is standard for European travelers, but not for this experienced U.S. world dive traveler.)
The typhoon whipped up the underwater so particulates were everywhere causing severe back scatter. Even my photos turned out marginal...
Topside was severely challenging. Bottomside was also sadly disappointing.
I KNOW that Truk Lagoon is slowing deteriorating. If you have any desire to see the most spectacular wreck diving on this planet, you MUST go.
Be prepared to make one of the longest journeys to and from this remote location, in your entire life.

UW Photo Comments Been on other Truk dive liveaboards who really catered to UWP. The Thorfinn has a small sink holding one camera on another deck. Very poor for photographers.
