Comments PV Sea Dive is a very good small operation. They (Sue and Marie) have one boat and, at present, no real dive shop, although they are planning a facility for next year. They limit the number of divers to 8 max, and 4 divers to one DM. We checked out other dive shops, and most looked like cattle-boat operations with combined snorkle and dive groups aimed at the cruise ship crowd. We had two 2-tank dives - one to the Marietas and one to the south bay. On the latter, they had a full boat, and they divided the divers mostly by experience. Sue and Marie (as well as DM Mark and Captain Carlos) are very accomodating and helpful, both above and below the water. That being said, the visibility was limited. Sue and Marie said that summer visibilty is much better. All of our dives were at 45 feet or less (as much our choice as theirs). My wife and I saw a number of green and jewelled eels, as well as lots of puffers and box fish and several fairly large scorpion fish. Sue and Mark were good at finding nudibranchs of various sizes and shapes. They also were willing to have us dawdle as we took pictures. At the end of one dive, my wife, my son, and I had substantial amounts of air left (the other diver in our group needed to surface), and we were allowed to continue our dive. We had our grandkids (2 and 5) with us on one trip, and PV Sea Dive made a special effort to accomodate them. Still, I would not go to Peurto Vallarta for a dive trip. But if I were there, I'd choose PV Sea Dive every time. Velas Vallarta is an all-inclusive timeshare. The rooms and facilities are nice and very kid-friendly, and the food is good.
