Wakatobi Resort is well run but somewhat stiff. First day, mandatory
checkout dive for first time guests (mask clearing and buddy air/share.)
The dive staff was so focused on their 'jobs' that they came off as rude to
the guests. Not a great way to say "Welcome to Wakatobi". Most
redeemed themselves through-out the week.

Office staff not very 'guest friendly'.... didn't speak or smile the entire
week.

Chef and restaurant are 4-star; Ample food and choices for every meal.
Something for everyone's taste. EXCELLENT and friendly wait and bar
staff.

Accommodations are roomy but need updating; New villas are pricey; some
bungalows have been recently rennovated (#1-3 I think) and are much nicer.
Rooms were very clean and the excellent housekeeping staff kept them that
way daily. BEAUTIFUL beaches and sunrises/sunsets. Each bungalow has a
lanai with chairs as well as a near-by hammock and beach chairs. The
"Jetty Bar" is a great place to drink morning coffee and/or watch
sunsets.

Dive operations: Boats are big and comfy with lots of room for everyone to
manuever. Camera rinse tank onboard and 'carpeted' surface to lay cameras
on. Dive ladders are the best I've seen at a resort... perfectly spaced
steps for easy water exits.

Dive Masters are all over the board regarding experience. I had an dive
master that has been with Wakatobi for several years. Some in our group
(we had 3 of the 4 boats) had DM's with very little experience that merely
jumped in the water with the group and went for a swim.

The reefs are the healthiest that I've seen in a long time. Hard and soft
corals and the critters are everywhere. Nudibranch's, turtles, cuttlefish
etc.... abundant sea life. Macro and wide angle photo. Great wall dives.

VERY remote but the resort flies you to and from Bali in their own plane(s)
to their airstrip so getting there was pretty painless.

Worth a visit!!! But a long trip from the US... take several weeks and see
Bali and some of the other diving in the area while you are there.
