Comments [None]Wakatobi organized and has a variety of tank sizes. You tend to get cold doing 3 dives 70 minutes each in 79 F water, so those in 3 mil wet suits tended to get cold. I had a 7/5 ( since I don't own a 5 mil) and this was perfect , though a straight 5 mil would have been preferable b/c I could then dive with less weight ( I used 17 lbs). The variety of small to medium tropical fish is mind-boggling. Largest pelagics I saw were Green Turtles weighing maybe 200 lbs and Bumphead Wrasses. saw no sharks, although others spotted a few small Black Tip sharks. So if you hunger for big stuff- whale sharks, mantas , hammerheads, etc.- then Wakatobi is not for you. But if you like lots of smaller stuff- tropical fish, Krait sea snakes , muck diving, healthy corals- then Wakatobi is for you .The resort is superbly organized and staffed. It's a long trip to get there , so if you can afford it go biz class ( We went biz class Cathay Pacific LAX- Hong Kong, then Hong Kong -Bali on Boeing 777s- flat beds on the flight LAX-Hong Kong and return were very comfortable.)I put a 4 rating re diving for experienced divers and food because there were no large pelagics and the food- while very good- was not gourmet. But seeing Wakatobi is in the middle of nowhere, it's amazing the resort could be so good in such a remote place. Not a lot for non-divers to do ( visit nearby village, spa, snorkle is about it).
