Comments Wakatobi is a superior resort and dive operation. The dive staff and land service people know your name within 24 hours. They set up your gear for you, and make sure it's on the boat. they help you check your nitrox fills. Dives are not hurried and there is plenty of time to take pics or video. The reef is in even better shape than 2 years ago with lots of healthy corals and abundant tropical fish.
The only drawback is if you have a major medical emergency. There is no real medical care available- just a dispensary. I inadvertently got stung by hydroids while doing video of an anemone fish. By midnight my hand was the size of a brick. I called the resort emergency number but there was no answer (it turns out the line was out of order and nobody knew it.) I could not get cell service on my iphone to call DAN. Finally was able to text my buddy back in Virgina via wifi who got in touch with DAN for me. Fortunately, I had appropriate meds with me and was able to treat my problem. I spoke to one of resort managers in the AM about the situation and asked what the plan was if there was a serious emergency. Evidently, there isn't one. I think given the age of many of the divers who go to this resort, there should be some sort of emergency evac plan in place.
Other than this mishap, we had a wonderful time and I would return to Wakatobi tomorrow!
