Comments This was my second trip the area having spent a week at CoCo VIew in 2013. A girlfriend and I started looking around for any deals after DEMA in 2014, and initially made a reservation at another resort in the town. Further research changed our minds and Utopia Village become our destination. We flew into Roatan and had a short wait to pick up others going to the island (all this was arranged by the resort). We were the only customers!
The resort has recently undergone extensive renovations after being purchased by Paul Avenant and his wife (from Australia) Unfortunately they were not in residence at the time. However, the staff could not have been more helpful. Everything but alcohol is included, and we had our choice of menus at breakfast, lunch and dinner. We stuck with local dishes for the most part. Our room faced the water, and was very spacious with two queen sized beds. Fresh water was available outside our door. Dive briefings were at 8 am after a 7 am breakfast and we basically didn't have to touch our gear from the day we unpacked it until it was rinsed and ready to pack at the end of the trip. We both preferred day dives so that is what we did. A picnic on an uninhabited island, a visit to a nearby island and a trip to town completed our trip. The diving was a mixture of small and large creatures, including a snorkel with a family of spinner dolphins and then a family of squid on the last dive. I usually try a variety of different diving around the world, this place is definitely on my repeat list. Only bad thing? Flies. The resort does a great job of trying to keep them to a minimum, just be prepared and take Calidryl.
