Just returned from the most relaxing vacation we've ever had. Reef House Resort is in Oak Ridge, south shore of Roatan, but 10-12 miles east of the Coco View and Fantasy Island commotion and diver traffic. Roughly forty recognized dive sites along this stretch of coast; rarely saw another dive boat, except the one day we ventured to Mary's Place. Reef House is great! 12 rooms, low key, family style dining, sit and BS with the owners and staff, good food, TV and Internet phone access if you need it, no phones, we loved it! I would highly recommend this resort and its dive operation if you just want to relax, kick back, and dive. 3 boat dives plus unlimited shore diving daily. Only one night dive a week; could have stood more. Wall dives are 20-200 yards off shore, first drop is to about 120' in most places. Great soft corals, good sponges, lots of little reef critters, not much reef fish traffic. Most dives are of a somewhat similar character. Windier than usual for May while we were there, which lowered viz somewhat. Do it again? Definite "yes" for the Reef House. Roatan in general ...too many places to see to say that I would go right back there. |
