Comments We had deliberated about choosing operators further south as the boat rides were known to be long and sometimes bumpy. Since we were staying in Kanapali north of Lahaina due to prior commitments with non-diving friends, we decided to take a chance on Lahaina Divers. They were a good operation. We knew that diving some spots such as Molokini would result in getting a less than prime mooring, but under the circumstances we were pleasantly surprised at the better than average mooring. Since we were doing some topside stuff on Haleakela Crater we had to plan out our diving to do after the high altitude hiking. I would recommend that you get reservations ahead a few months if possible as certain diving spots fill up, incuding Cathedrals on Lanai and Molokini.

Even though we dealt with up to 20 divers the boat was large and fast. They separated us into groups based on experience and our group ranged from 4-6 people. This allowed us time in Cathedrals I and plenty of photography and viewing of critters. The guide were very knowledgeable and helpful and I liked that we could assemble our gear on the tanks. For less experienced divers they appeared very helpful to move them along the process.

The dive calendar specifies dive spots during the week, so planning your topside activities with the diving is essential. Cathedrals was awesome and a must dive. We did not get to do Cathedrals 2 and I hear that may even be better. Molokini was so hyped up that when I got there it was somewhat disappointing. Viz was great but the coral and amount of sea life was scarcer than I expected. However, I think it depends on the mooring you get and that is the down side for Lahaina as its boats get there late in the morning. The boats from the southern part of the island were already leaving. That being said, the dives were still above average.

In summary, Lahaina Divers is a good operation who aims to please. If you do not like traveling on water for long periods, go south.
