Comments The Diving
I chose Lahania Divers because of the reports in Undercurrent and because they operate the largest boats out of Lahania (two Newton 46s). I was not disappointed. They have a well-run/safe operation and I had no issues in six 2-tank dives with them. Lahania Divers are the only operator than goes clear around the backside of Lanai and their larger boats are better for the often rough run to Molokai. Molokai and the back wall of Molokini Crater had 200 foot visibility. The rest of the dives averaged about 100 ft. visibility. This area had much better fish life and hard corals than Kauai. The coral reefs are much younger than the Caribbean and do not have the size or diversity; nor do they have the soft corals of Fiji. At least there was no fire coral! The reef fish life was abundant and diversified. Lahania Divers had a dive guide (all were instructors) with each group of six to eight divers, regardless of the experience level. I did not feel controlled or suffocated. They were great and were able to point out a lot of the marine life. I would not recommend spending the extra for nitrox unless you plan on doing four dives in one day. I hardly ever went below 65 feet and most of the dives were spent in the 35 to 60 foot range. Their rental tanks were Faber steel 72s. They did have several 100s for the high air consumption divers. I think they had a few 62s as well, but no one on my trips used them. I never had a short fill. The rental equipment from Lahania Divers that I saw never had an issue and was in good shape (I used my own gear). I did hear some stories about other operators from other divers on my trips (all six-pac boats). I would definitely go with Lahania Divers again. Suggestion, bring or rent a small underwater light. It will be helpful to look at some of the critters.

The Lodging at Lahania Shores
Based on another Undercurrent report, I went through a travel agency called hawaiiconnection.com. I was able to get a great rate on a studio with a full kitchen. It was so low compared to the other places that we were able to stay two weeks instead of a shorter visit. Suggestion, request the highest floor possible. We were on the sixth floor and it was very quiet, with a great view of the mountains. I would definitely stay there again, and I would also use hawaiiconnection.com again.
