I have been diving in Kailua Kona for seven years with various dive
operators. Only after moving here did I discover Kona Ocean Adventures
owned by Danny Scott and Laure McElwee. This is a small operation that
does not take more than six divers at a time. The boat is very comfortable
with a working head (not common on many of the bigger boats!)I dove with
Laure and with Tim (another DM who works with them). Danny, unfortunately
was relegated to driving the boat due to an injury, but should be back in
the water soon. They all go out of their way to make sure you have an
enjoyable dive, and extend extra help when needed. I'm 75, so really
appreciate that extra help getting in and out of the boat. All I can say
about the "snack" between dives is it's more like a seven course
meal. If you like small dive groups, plenty of attention and a fun dive, I
highly recommend KOA. They also do snorkel, dolphin, manta ray trips and
group charters.
