Comments This is my 7th consecutive year diving with F5. Owner Jeannette is now very hands on, and it shows, with improvements/maintenance on boat. Due to tradewinds, southern dive sites had more surge and particulate in the water than usual, reducing visibility from the usual 80' plus. Nevertheless, the crew tried to get the best sites every day given changing conditions. Niihau trip was awesome, as and the return trip was much less rough than usual. Captain Charlie has been working here for over 30 years. Boats are two six-packs; get into water via backroll, then hand your tank/bc/reg unit up to Charlie and get on boat via ladder or swim platform. South shore sites are 15-20 minutes from harbor, and the boat can return to the harbor for surface interval time (and toilets in adjoining park). Kauai reefs are mostly lava slabs with some hard coral (cauliflower) and some soft corals, so don't expect lush reefs. Lots of schooling fish (surgeons, trigger, snappers), a shark and turtle or two on most dives; dozen BIG turtles or more at Sheraton Caverns. You'll need to book before you arrive on the island to assure your spots; if they have enough for both boats in the am, they'll divide them by skills/groups. Snacks (chips, cookies, chocolate, soda, water) provided. Will rinse and store your gear between dives.
