Hotel El Ocotal and the dive operation were first rate in every way. The
service was consistently friendly and of extremely high quality. The hotel
and restaurant staff, as well we the dive masters accomodated guests with
any request. This is one of the best dive trips I have taken in the last
twenty years. Dives to local sites were normally 15-20 minutes away. The
diversity of marine life made up for the vis of 15-20 feet. Eagle rays and
white-tip reef sharks, in addition to several large schools of grunt and
other fish were common. Bottle-nose and spinner dolphins were always
present on the surface. While a 3mm shorty worked for me, others had
difficulty with the occasional cold currents at depth. Trips to the Bat and
Catalina islands were hard to schedule as there were so few divers. Plenty
of sun until late afternoon when a daily shower would fall. I would not
hesitate to return to El Ocotal in the future.
