Comments I have been to a lot of dive resorts/dive operations and I have mixed feelings about this one. I went with a group of 8 of us and we all have a good deal of experience. Our group is low maintenence and we are often complimented by dive staff for how easy we make it for them. It is with this backgroud I give this report.

Cobalt Coast Resort is a 18 room dive resort that has exceptional customer service and wonderful facilities. Room, food, service, and facilities were all great. The resort staff went out of their way to make you feel welcome.

DiveTech, located on the Cobalt Coast Resort, is an acceptable facilty, however, the general attitude and behavior of the dive staff demonstrates a "take it or leave it" approach towards customers. The dive staff are generally friendly, safety-conscious, and laid back, however, if you need something or have questions, you have to ask...they do not proactively offer assist or information. This staff does just what it needs to do but there is no exceptional service. It reminds me of a place that has all the business they want and feels they do not need to do anything extra to generate additional business. I felt a slight arrogant demeanor with most of the dive staff toward the divers. The staff were friendly and helpful, but still kept their distance.

What really bothers me about the DiveTech staff culture it that it would be so easy to these gals/guys to correct this if they wished to do so.

Our group was part of the 12 to 13 divers on their older, smaller boat, however, everything went as well as can be expected under the circumstances. This boat was much better to dive with 10 divers. (Their larger 42 Newton was being repaired while we were there.) They have a curious problem with their dock off DiveTech...the old boat tends to hit ground unless the tide and/or waves is just right which was about 50% of the time we were there.(I understand that this is less of an issue with the larger Newton for it rides higher in the water.) Because of this, they did not like to stay moored long on the dock. Therefore, you often find yourself putting your gear together including finding weights, tanks, and arranging equipment on a moving boat. This led to several of us getting seasick on our first day althought we were is relatively mild seas.

On the positive side, there were no crowds, jet skis, or tourist trappings at the resort or any of our dive sites. This was very nice. The shore dive just off the resort is one of the best dive sites we visited.

The bottom-line is I will likely make a return trip to DiveTech, but I will go there with low expectations from the customer service side of things from most of the dive staff. A large part of my decision to return is the great facility of Cobalt Coast Resort.
