1999 Chapbook
  Antigua

On my way to Dominica I stopped and dived Antigua. What I remember most about the island was its beautiful beaches and scenery, high-dollar hotels, and a five-buck hot dog. The diving was forgettable. If you find yourself here, avoid boats that take divers from the cruise ships, as they do only the close-in, shallow reefs. Not that it gets a whole lot better, but diving with the cruise ship crowd can be a real zoo . . .

Deep Bay Scuba Villas/Trafalgar Beach, February 1998, William Edwards, Placerville, CA. Spent a week on Antigua, but only able to get one day's diving; storm left high surf that stirred everything up. Deep Bay Divers was a mediocre operation, at best. One-man operation; no one on the boat when we dove. Vis: 60-80 ft. Water: 76-78 degrees. Dive restrictions; stay with group. Our divemaster was not conservation minded. He dropped anchor on the reef and touched everything within his reach. Dive sites were Bogan's Anchor and Deep Cut; not much to see except one huge lobster.
