Cobalt Coast is a small, upscale resort on the "West End" of
Grand Cayman. It is away from the crowds, etc. To get to town you can
take the small buses, which costs $2.50 ow. (For an extra $1.00 more they
will drop you at the resort.), or take a cab (about $20.00 from town).
The resort owner and manager, Arie, is truly wonderful. He provides
personalized attention, and makes you feel very special. It's hard to say
enough good about him and his impecable service. The wait staff can be a
bit aloof, but this seems to be a Carribean trait.
DiveTech owner Nancy Easterbrook runs an excellent dive operation. Two
nicely appointed boats leave from the marina for a two tank morning dive or
a one tank afternoon dive. (transportation is provided) They dive the great
North Wall. You can plan and execute your own dive profiles, and we were
able to get 1+ hour dives almost every time (unlike other dive operations
which can start getting on your case if you take longer than 1/2 hour on a
dive!)
Divetech operates a dive shop at both Turtle Reef and Cobalt Coast. The
house reef at Cobalt Coast is o.k., but the one at Turtle Reef is much
better. Try to hitch a ride to Turtle Reef. At Turtle Reef dive out about
50 yards to a very nice wall. Hang a left to see a large number of Tarpon.
Keep your eyes open for sailfin Blennies, Pike Blennies, and of course
eagle rays, turtles, etc.
The "big wall" is a very long way off shore. It can be done as
a shore dive, but once you get there it's time to turn around! The big wall
at Turtle Reef is more of a steep incline. Big wall at Cobalt Coast is a
nice wall, and for $5.00 they will take you out to the wall and drop you
off in a Zodiac
