Scubasur was a good operation. They were on time, safety concious, and
very helpful. The boats are Zodiacs, so don't expect luxury. We (me,
wife and friend) dived a couple of sites on the Gran Canary. After our
first dive, wife and friend bagged it, since there was lousy visibility
and little to see even when visibility improved. I went on a second dive
to a supposedly "good" dive site. Same story. Lanzarote may be
OK, but forget Gran Canary for diving. We did drive around the island,
which is pretty spectacular on the West side, and had some great food in
Las Palmas. However, at the end of the trip, our rental car (a small
Opel) was broken into and we lost passports, air tickets (Regional Air
Lines from Morocco - don't ever bother), clothes, cameras, and computers.
We were told later that this is really common (and in fact another car with
the same problem pulled up behind us just as the police arrived). Police
and people at the airport (airline and everything else) were especially
unhelpful. Required a trip to Madrid for replacements. All in all, the
trip from hell - with a couple of bright spots.
