We wouldn't necessarily make Guam a dive destination but since we were
enroute Truk, Yap and Palau we thought we would stop
to recover from jet lag and check it out. It also afforded us an
opportunity to get in the water after 5-6 months and make sure all the
gear was operative before moving on to more remote locales. Diving was
okay. Lots of the typical Pacific tropicals.
We didn't encounter any big stuff other than Dolphins on the surface
during surface interval. Coral we saw looked beat up. Could
have been from storms and wave action. Saw lots of equipment on the
bottom: Anchors, tank treads, ordinance, etc. Evidance
of a strong military prescence.

Read about this operator in Chapbook. It wasn't
our first choice but was the only one that could accomodate us as
walk-ins. Pleasant folks. I wouldn't have wanted to be a raw
beginner as their hands were full with a large group of Asian divers who
were beginners (or just bad) divers. Lots of flailing about
underwater. Boat was nice. Lunch was provided. Guam was still suffering
from the effects of a December 2002 typhoon. Lots
of damage evidant to buildings, trees, etc. A number of rooms in our
hotel (Marriott) were still not habitable. This coupled with
the Gulf war, Asian SARS crisis, etc and these folks seem to be hurting!
All were pleasant and the Island has some beautiful
beaches and hikes. An around the island drive to check out Pacific war
battle sites and memorials was sobering but beautiful.
Definately worth a stop if in the neighborhood.
