No fresh water rice tank on boat, once they saw me carry water on to the boat they provided a salt water tank to keep equipment wet until arriving back at dive shop. Fresh water hose at shop. Staff was very carful and helpful with camera equip. No camera table on boat but boats were not crowded so it was fine. No E6 on the island but Glen, the owner, does have plans to puchase E6 equipment. |

The island was what i expected. Pre trip information was gathered from the Chap book, undercurrents Jan. issue and other sources. Great place for divers and those who want a quiet and relaxed vacation. Not for those looking nightlife or shopping. Food at the Old Gin House was excellent and no more expensive than a good meal in the US,and there were many good places to eat that were very inexpensive for the meal provided. I book a dive package with Golden Rock Divers and was very pleased with the operation. Dive masters Benji and Annouch were great in all respects. Mid week a large group arrive and Glen, the owner, adjusted the dive scheudle to accomadate all by adding dive times to the schedule not over crowding the boat. Glen asked for volonters to go out in the inflatable to help releave the conjestion on the boat. I gladly volontered along with others and did about four dives with Glen and a Couple form Amstedam and this just added to the diveing pleasurs we enjoyed that week. The only negative that i can recall was the refusal of customs on St. Maartens to hand inspect my film, not only would they not hand inspect my film but ther were extremly rude and callous about it. In closing, The trip didn't start out well with the film incident but the people and the dive operation on statia more than made up for it. If you decide to visit Statia you will find Michelle, Glens wife, extremely pleasant and helpful in arranging your trip. |
